Pflugerville gets skipped by a lot of relocating buyers, mostly because they have never heard of it and cannot spell it. That is a mistake, and here is why.

The commute is the story
Pflugerville sits east of I-35 with direct access to the 130 and 45 toll roads. That combination is quietly the best positioning in the north metro for a specific kind of commuter.
If your job is in northeast Austin, at the Parmer employment corridor, at the semiconductor plants out toward Taylor, or anywhere the toll roads reach, you can get there without touching I-35. That matters enormously, because I-35 through Round Rock is the reason a lot of people in this metro hate their commute.
To downtown Austin, Pflugerville is closer in absolute distance than Leander or Georgetown, though it depends on I-35 or the toll to get there.
What it costs
Pflugerville is one of the better value propositions in the metro. You generally get more house for the money than in Round Rock or Cedar Park, with newer inventory than the established west-side suburbs.
The catch is the tax rate. Pflugerville's combined rate tends to run on the higher side of the corridor, and several neighborhoods sit in MUDs on top of that. Two houses at the same price can carry very different monthly payments here. Check the specific parcel before you compare.

The city itself
Lake Pflugerville is a real amenity: a three-mile trail around a reservoir, kayaking, fishing, and a genuine gathering point for the city.
The parks and trail system generally is better than people expect, and the city has invested in it.
The old downtown is small and slowly coming along. It is not Georgetown's square and it is not trying to be. Most of your dining and retail life will be along the highway corridors and in Round Rock.
Schools
Pflugerville ISD serves most of the city, with parts of the area feeding Round Rock ISD. For which district and campus serve a specific address, use the district's boundary lookup. For published school data, use the Texas Education Agency's school report cards at txschools.gov. I do not rate schools.

When Pflugerville fits
Commuters to northeast Austin, Parmer, the toll corridor or Taylor. This is the single strongest case for Pflugerville and it is a strong one.
Buyers who want newer construction and more square footage than Round Rock offers at the same price.
People who would rather live somewhere growing into itself than somewhere already finished.
When to look elsewhere
If your work is northwest (the Domain, 183, Cedar Park), you are on the wrong side of I-35 and you will feel it every day. Leander or Cedar Park is your answer instead.
If a walkable town center is high on your list, Pflugerville is not there yet.
Versus Hutto and Round Rock
Hutto is further out, cheaper, and smaller-town in feel. Round Rock is more established, more expensive, and better served but sits on the wrong side of I-35 traffic. Pflugerville sits between them on both price and amenity, with the toll road access as its distinguishing advantage.
