Pflugerville is mainly in Travis County and Round Rock is mainly in Williamson County, so they use different appraisal districts and tax offices.
Straight-line, Pflugerville is about 14.5 miles and Round Rock is about 18. Run your own commute at your own hour.
Each address carries its own mix of taxing units, so look up the parcel's rate breakdown at the county, and add any MUD or PID.
Pflugerville and Round Rock are two of the most common pairs on a north Austin buyer's list. They sit close together, and they differ in ways that show up in your tax bill, your commute and your paperwork. This page compares them on facts you can check. I do not rate either one or tell you which is better, because that depends on your list. I am Ken Jackson, a REALTOR with Spyglass Realty.
This is general information, not legal, tax or lending advice. Your contract, your lender, your title company and the agencies named below control the details.
Pflugerville is northeast of Austin, mainly in Travis County with a small part in Williamson County. Round Rock is north of Austin, mainly in Williamson County with a small part in Travis County. Straight-line from the Texas Capitol, Pflugerville is about 14.5 miles and Round Rock is about 18. Road miles are longer, and a city that is closer on the map is not always faster at 8 a.m. Run your own commute at your own hour.

Because the two cities lean toward different counties, they use different appraisal districts, and each address carries its own mix of taxing units: county, city, school district, community college and any MUD. Two homes in the same city can have different totals. I am not quoting a rate, because rates change every year. Look up the parcel's full rate breakdown at the county tax office for each home on your list, and add any PID assessment on top. I can pull the numbers with you.
For most buyers the question is a house in a subdivision, and each subdivision can have its own HOA, MUD or PID. Ask for the HOA documents and resale certificate in writing. For a newer home, ask for the MUD notice and PID notice. For a condo in either city, read the declaration and resale certificate, and see the Texas condo buyer guide.
I do not rate schools or districts. District lines do not always follow city lines, so two homes in the same city can be in different districts. Use the school district's own boundary tool and TEA to confirm the district for an address, then read the official data and visit the campuses.
By straight line, Pflugerville at about 14.5 miles, compared with about 18 for Round Rock. Drive time depends on your route, the hour and construction, so test both.
I will not give a blanket answer. It depends on the address, the taxing units that cover it and any MUD or PID. Ask me to pull the current rates for the specific homes you are comparing.
Yes, in places. Which homes are affected depends on the subdivision and lot, so check each address.
I cannot rate schools, and no real estate agent should rank them for you. Confirm the district for an address, read the official data on TEA's site and the district's pages, and visit.
Set a map tool to leave at your real hour on a few different days and compare free and tolled routes. Check each agency's current page for transit hours and fares.
I do not make safety claims about places. Use the local police departments' published data and visit at different times of day.
