Round Rock in Williamson or Travis County: What Changes on Your Tax Bill

The county line changes who values the house and two lines on the bill. The city and school lines stay the same.
October 20, 2026

The City of Round Rock appears in both the Williamson County and the Travis County 2026 tax rate tables, which means it taxes property in both counties. Cedar Park, Leander and Pflugerville do too. The county line changes three things: which appraisal district values the house, which county rates apply, and which county exemptions you get. The city, school district and ACC rates are the same on both sides.

The short version

  • Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander and Pflugerville all appear in both counties' 2026 rate tables.
  • On the Travis side, Travis County and Central Health replace Williamson County's two lines.
  • Travis County gives a 20 percent homestead exemption. Check the parcel before you estimate.

Key facts, checked October 15, 2026

Which appraisal district values the house

The county decides who sets the value and where you file. Williamson County homes go through the Williamson Central Appraisal District (WCAD). Travis County homes go through the Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD), which takes homestead applications online, by mail, or at its office at 850 East Anderson Lane. You file your homestead with the district for the county the house is in, and you protest your value there too.

The county lines on the bill

On a Williamson-side home, the county lines are Williamson County's general rate of 0.381218 and its road rate of 0.040329. On a Travis-side home, they are Travis County at 0.38621 and Central Health at 0.132863. Before exemptions, the Travis pair adds up to 0.519073 per $100 and the Williamson pair to 0.421547. That is a difference of about $98 per $100,000 of taxable value.

Exemptions narrow that gap. TCAD's 2026 listing shows Travis County giving a 20 percent homestead exemption with a $5,000 minimum, and $145,269 for owners 65 or older or disabled. Any taxing unit can adopt its own optional exemptions, so I run the numbers for the actual parcel instead of quoting a rule of thumb.

What stays the same

The City of Round Rock's 2026 rate is 0.423 in both tables. Round Rock ISD is 0.9484 in both, and ACC's 0.103643 shows in both. So the city, school and college lines do not change at the county line. Only the county lines, the appraisal district and the county exemptions do.

Cedar Park, Leander and Pflugerville have the same split

Travis County's 2026 table lists the City of Cedar Park, the City of Leander and the City of Pflugerville next to Round Rock, along with Leander ISD and Pflugerville ISD. Pflugerville's city rate is 0.5436 in both counties' tables, Cedar Park's is 0.37793 and Leander's is 0.417282. Same rule: the city and school lines hold, the county lines swap.

If you are deciding between towns, the Pflugerville vs Round Rock comparison and the Cedar Park buyer guide cover the rest of the trade.

How to check the county for a house

Search the address on WCAD and TCAD. The district that has the parcel tells you the county. The most recent tax statement lists every taxing unit on the property. I pull both for every house before we write an offer, so the payment estimate uses the right county lines from the start.
